The United States Department of Education recommends weeding out schools that are not accredited or licensed.

Geographic location, program length, and cost are major factors, too, but beyond that, prospective students need to check into qualifications of teachers, curriculum, percentage of students who complete the program, and the percentage of graduates working in their chosen field.
